to design a new three bedroom home
Project Status
Under Construction
Located on an incredible remote site in the Bahamas, this new house was designed first and formast to take advantage of the incredible panoramic views. The project was conceived as a fanning out of four view framing fingers toward the horizon. One each for the bedrooms and one for the main living/dining space.
The knuckle of the plan where the spaces converge internally is fittingly devoted to the large eat in kitchen, serving as a the heart and central gathering space. This central space opens out to a large covered deck and swimming pool. A wraparound deck follows the panoramic view allowing one to get lost in the distant horizon.

Conceptual Site Plan

Conceptual Floor Plan
With approaches from the northeast, northwest, and beach access to the south, the project needed to accomodate multiple entry points and paths of movement.
When approaching the house, there are only a handful of punched openings in the otherwise opaque facades.
As shown in the Conceptual Floor Plan, one can either enter from the west through a narrow slot between volumes or from the north for a dramatic view framed between the two parallel fingers. Continuing in from either of the points of entry, it was important that the dramatic panoramic views of the project be hinted at but not fully revealed. Then once entering the central hearth of the home including the dining, living, kitchen spaces and out onto the deck, the splednor of the blue water and distant horizon is unveiled.
