Like cinema, Architecture is an immersive experience. The
design of inhabitable space is surrounding; it is enveloping. There is a
sequence of movement, a choreography that dramatically unfolds. Like Fine Art
or Photography, there are composed frames, but here they are woven together
into a seamless and continuous experience. But it is not a projection on a screen,
or a framed view hung on the wall. Architecture is the backdrop of everyday
life.
Unlike other forms of design, Architecture must endure
through time and in its place. The seasons change; the inhabitants change. Architecture
remains constant: a stage for life’s many performances, a canvas for the slowly
inching shadows. Because Architecture cannot be relocated, it has a responsibility
to be embedded into the unique qualities of the site. There, it becomes a lens through
which to view these invisible forces at work.
